Feldenkrais Moves Chester Basin

Lisa Woolnough

Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner ®

The Feldenkrais® Method enables effortless, comfortable movement for all the functions of every day life.  It is a practical way to maintain or regain the pleasure of

  1.    Workout routines

  2.    Office and household tasks

  3.    Sports activities

This is a non-invasive, step-by-step system of learning. All ages and abilities can benefit from “FeldenkraisMoves.”

In Awareness Through Movement® classes, slow and gentle actions reveal the parts of you that move easily and those that don’t. Each class explores a different movement sequence. You are guided to discover your habits, good and bad. By learning what you do as you move, you can improve your ability and comfort.

Students taking classes report:

  1.      taller posture & fuller breathing

  2.      muscle relaxation

  3.      increased joint flexibility

Functional Integration® lessons are individual sessions in which the Feldenkrais practitioner uses non-invasive touch. This guides the student to a clearer understanding of how the movement in one part of the body can affect movement in all parts of the body.

After a lesson clients frequently notice:

  1.    easing of chronic pain

  2.    a sensation of well being

  3.    improvement in balance

This stuff works !!

Six months after a left Colles fracture (left wrist) I had several individual Feldenkrais lessons with Lisa.  To my pleasure I was able to turn my car steering wheel easily in a hand over hand motion which I had not been able to do previously.  Also to my surprise I realised I was standing with my weight evenly through both my legs.  I had favoured my left leg for a long time.  I really feel the Feldenkrais lessons have improved my total body function and I want to continue. Thank you, Lisa.”– Pat, physiotherapist

Comments
For the past five years, I have enjoyed Feldenkrais classes, workshops and private lessons.  Furthermore, four of my five children, my sister and my granddaughter have shared the experience, loved it and benefited from it. Feldenkrais is a fascinating, logical and efficient, yet almost magical method of movement - that is virtually impossible to describe satisfactorily.

Personal experience is the only way to "Get it" and reap its many benefits.”

Suitable for all ages and abilities

Lisa studied to become a Feldenkrais® Practitioner in Montreal. She completed the four-year professional training programme in 1996 and has been practicing full time since then. A practitioner must complete Advanced Training every two years to maintain certification as a member of the North American Feldenkrais Guild.

Lisa discovered the Feldenkrais Method while searching for a way to ease the chronic pain suffered by her mother after a back injury. Subsequently, Lisa became vision impaired and the kinaesthetic awareness gained from her Feldenkrais work has enabled her to keep on skiing, kayaking and dog walking. She lives and works in

Chester Basin Nova Scotia.

I have taken Feldenkrais with Lisa for ten years and have found it to be enjoyable and very useful.  It has helped me to better my golf game, something of interest to me.  The exercises and insights into how the body works have also helped in my daily life: sitting, walking, sleeping, and staying upright during the winter.  Feldenkrais can help one lead a better life.

I came to Feldenkrais through the suggestion of my massage therapist, who had concluded he could not help much more to make my stiff body improve. He knew little about Feldenkrais, but had also heard it was helping some people in a retirement home he know about. For my part, having become progressively less flexible and having much more serious pain in the preceeding five or six years, and having explored multiple different things in an attempt to get better with limited success, I was willing to try almost anything - even something that sounded more like a high fibre cracker than a useful therapy.
